Kolu 2010

When I was a kid, our family lived near a shopping area.  To be exact, we lived in Pondy Bazaar in Chennai. I used to watch people buy things, window shop, roam and enjoy in that area.  Whenever there is a festival, the area would be filled with people, shopping for things. As all kids, I too loved festivals.  My parents used to celebrate all the festival except this Kolu(which is very colorful and attractive for kids).   I used to put a chair in the Balcony and watch the dolls arranged neatly in the shops. My friends, used to invite me for the kolu. I loved to visit them. A few times, I had even asked my parents to celebrate Kolu at home.  But they had other great things to do. That was past.
When my atai came last year, she brought some dolls with her. She celebrated it last year(I mean virathams, slogams, songs, sutha bhatham). And the tradition continues this year by mee ;-).  I did everything virathams, slogams, songs, sutha bhathams and even neivethyams.  I wanted to tell stories about the gods and goddesses but I found very hard to squeeze time for that. Harder than that was managing Kolu with 2 toddlers.  My nemo used to take all the third row things.  Thank God they dint break. And one day he put his finger into the burning camphor and cried all the night along with me. Ooops that was another story. MM was soo happy as he got some or other different dish to enjoy daily. It was fun. Two weeks flew like a few minutes..
We invited all our friends. I even invited few americans. Our neighbor who is a very old lady(she is 83, a lovely woman, I should write a full page post about her) came and asked about all the dolls. She even invited her daughter and grand kids visit the kolu. I was very happy when they all came. I felt like I was in India.
Hope I continue this next year too.

A Different name!!!

Divya Kissed her mom and bid bye to her dad. She started to walk in the road. She walked little faster though she had 10 mins for her office bus. she was moving fast to see someone special. She looked at the watch, it was 7.45 in the morning. He would have arrived, she was thinking. She was wearing a chocolate brown cotton chudidhar with lots of embroidery work. She thought he would like that. She reached the bus stop. Her eyes started to hunt for him. he was there, having his morning drink in a coffee shop. it should be tea, she thought. she was relishing him with her eyes when she was disturbed by her bus. she stepped into it. He came running and joined her. He said a quick good morning and went to another side behind her. She thought where there is love, distance doesn't matter. Though she sat in a different seat, she was with him, seeing him, talking with him, enjoying his company. Yep, she was a silent lover, silent friend, silent observer and even a silent colleague..

Divya, 24 yr old Software pro, working in one of the famous software firm. Fully fulfilled her parent's dream, studied well, placed in a good company, good mannered, waiting to be married, in love with a boy named vishnu in her company.

She could see him, from her cubicle. How handsome he is? He is tall, but not too tall, brown but not too brown, with a boyish crisp mustache and clean manners. Is it crush or love?? if mommy, knows this, she is going to kill me, she thought. She often daydream, he proposing her and she saying yes to it. But it was not a movie for that to happen. Once in a while, she will have a quick peek to see him. Whenever, he was missing in his seat, she used to search for him. She was dwelling in her own dream world, where she talked, played and lived with him.

She was sipping coffee when priya, called her for a break.. She was washing her face in the restroom, when she heard mini and preethi talking. Preethi was telling that her marriage was finally fixed with Vishnu. Divya could not believe her ears. Vishnu, the one whom she love? She was totally nailed.. With tears she returned to her seat. She had a quick look of him. She could not continue with her work. She felt like crying loudly.. This is real, and the rest what she had in mind were all just dreams. It was 7 P.M, She was in her bus returning home. The whole day, she felt upset, terrible, miserable, confused and what not. she was still in shock, thinking about her lover boy who became a dream to her.. She suddenly thought, yeah, he is a dream, let him be like that. She felt little better then. She got down from the bus, even from her thoughts about him.

When she entered home she saw some people at home. As she was not in a better mood, she said a quick hi to them and went inside. Her mother came into her room. She was all dressed up. She asked, did u see him? Divya was confused and annoyed. Her mother continued, "He is a M.tech graduate from BITS Pilani working in Infosys as Project Lead, nice and a suitable boy for you. We all like him. And he likes you, he said ok on seeing your photo. Only we want to hear from you". Divya saw him thru the window, he was talking with her brother. He is tall, but not too tall, brown but not too brown, with a boyish crisp mustache and clean manners.  One difference she could identify is he has a different name. She felt like laughing..

Dialogue

Yesterday we were having our dinner. And there was a dialogue between daddy and son. mm was about to finish his food.

MM: SOMEBODY is going to finish his plate
mm: Daddy, I was not eating my plate...
MM: ????
Me: ( Evil me felt very happy.  At last, my son has come to give bulbs/buns to MM  hi hi)

This happened last week.

mm: Look at this thambi.
nm: No reaction (Can't expect any from a six month old)
I was reading a magazine. I felt sorry, so I continued the dialogue for nm.
Me: What is it Kanna?
mm: Thambi
Me: Enna da?
mm: Thambi
Me: Enna Kannamma?
mm: I was not calling u amma,  I am talking with thambi.
Me: BulbBulbBulbBulb..

It is really sweet/cute/interesting/exciting/../../.. to hear my mowgli talk. I think, for a few months/years from now, my blog will be filled with such sweet dialogues.

Atlast, am squeezing some time..

I wanted to write about lot of things, but keep on forgetting them. Let me write them one by one. First, I wanted to write a post about the songs I love/hear.
My song choice is seasonal and it changes weekly or every 10 days. When I start liking a song, I will hear it again and again and again...

And this week's hit is "Dil to bachcha hai ji" from "Ishqiya". It is a really really lovely song, sung by Nusrat fateh ali khan, lyrics by Gulzar and Music by Vishal bharatwaj. From my little knowledge of hindhi language, I can say the lyrics is so nice. The singer's voice is so sweet and it blends pretty well with the music and the lyrics. I fell in love with the song and wanted to look at the artists and was googling while hearing the same song again and again all day. On listening, anyone will fall in love with this song.

During Christmas, I was crazy about the song, "Sleigh bell rings, Are you listening" from the animated movie "The polar express" (i could not find the exact song anywhere uploaded in net) . mm was crazy about this movie and I was about this song.  It is a very nice song. If someone wants to hear the song, I am ready to mail.(Will upload and will update the link when time permits)

One day I was listening to songs, sung by Vijay. Suddenly, I heard the song "Vennilavey, velli velli nilavey" from "Vetaiyadu villaiyadu".  I was surprised.  The voice was so flawless, I used to think that it was only from hariharan.  I heard this song so many times and finally concluded that 'Vijay' should have done the chorus. It is such a nice song, I could not stop myself falling in love.
Once I heard the song "Andha nilava than" from "Mudhal mariyathai" n times(Poor MM went crazy).
Likewise my list continues..

I read this news just now. The video was really disturbing. I feel so sorry for Nodar Kumaritashvili, who is so young, talented and full of life, gone in a fraction of second. May his soul rest in peace.

My Mowgli has grown a lot while Nemo is growing

After a very long time(approximately after one year), I took mm to library today. I think he forgot all about his visits to library in this long gap. Before getting inside the library I told him to be silent all the time, inside the library. He was amazed and excited seeing all the books neatly arranged in the shelves. First we went to kids dvd section. I let him select some dvds for him to watch. He selected lots of Thomas dvds and a few fairy tale dvds. I suggested him a few, but he refused.(3 yrs ku ethu too much da) Then he started to go thru some books. I was really happy thinking that he loves to read book and took my eyes off from him. I was browsing thru some book, suddenly came the question, (There was a tank in which, they had kept an African frog)

mm: Amma, look,what is that?
Me: It is a frog, Kanna.
mm: What is it doing?
Me: Its sleeping.
mm: Why is it sleeping in top of the water?(Actually it was floating in the water)
Me: It likes to sleep there kanna.
mm: Why not in the bottom amma?
Me: ? (Seriously I dont know)
mm: What is that?
Me: It is called the oxygenator. It gives oxygen to the frog
mm: We need stop that.
Me: Why kanna?
mm: It is hurting the frog. (the bubble was hitting the frog)
Me: It wont hurt him kanna, it is just a bubble.
mm: No amma, it is hurting him, see.

I was forced to drag him to other shelf, saying there are books about train. Though he came with me, his mind was revolving around the frog tank. He selected some music cds and books and started saying "lets buy this amma" and I started explaining how a library works. Time just flew. We checked out the items we took and started home. While coming out he even said bye to Mr. African frog quietly. (he sure remember things). I used to long for him to talk. Now, I dont have answers for many of his questions. But sure I am enjoying his enthusiasm to know.

Poor Nemo was at home with his dad. Though we have lot of baby food at home and lots of diaper, he was hungry waiting for his mom, with soiled diaper. Oops. No one can replace a mom. Nothing much to say about nm, right now. It will take some more time for him to perform his "LEELAIs".
